Art Center Ahjo is located in the heart of Joensuu, in the art quarter opposite Joensuu’s art museum ONNI. The cozy yellow wooden house with hints of Art Nouveau was originally built as the gymnasium of the Classical Lyceum in 1911 according to Jac Ahrenberg’s drawings. The building has maintained some of its original features, such as the wonderful wooden floors and the details of the external architecture. The large windows give the six-meter-high halls beautiful, indirect natural light.
Art Center Ahjo is maintained by Joensuun Taiteilijaseura ry.
Ahjo is an active art centre that is open to new art forms. Various exhibitions and events are organised in the art centre, and it strives to present both national and international art.

Taidekeskus Ahjo is also an accessible space. There is a separate ramp for wheelchair users and for example prams at the main entrance. The spacious customer toilet is located on the first floor and is equipped, among other things, with an appropriate toilet seat safety frame. There are also no high doorsteps to hinder movement between the exhibition spaces. We also welcome guide dogs to the exhibition premises.
